I is for Intention: Your Internal Compass for Direction
"We either live with intention or exist by default.” Kristin Armstrong, 3-time gold medalist
Success doesn’t happen by accident—it starts with clear intention. Think of yourself as a boat on the water. Without a destination, you drift aimlessly. Even if you're a small boat, knowing where you’re going gives you direction and purpose. Intention is your internal compass—it doesn’t matter how big the waves are if you stay locked in on your course.
*Self-Awareness: Pause and reflect—are your daily actions aligned with your bigger goals? If not, what’s pulling you off track?
*Strategy: Make intention a habit throughout your day:
Anchor Your Mindset: Set an intention in the morning for how you want to show up today (Examples: “I will be focused and enthusiastic” or “I will enjoy what I’m doing and be fully present”).
Transition with Purpose: Before shifting to a new task—work, practice, family time—pause and remind yourself of your intention. Depending on who you are with and what you are doing, your intention might shift throughout the day, so taking a moment to reset ensures you show up with the right mindset for each moment.
Reset When Needed: If you feel distracted or off-track, take a deep breath, recall your intention, and refocus.
*Action: Write down one key intention for the week that aligns with your goals. Keep it visible and remind yourself of it daily.
Closing Thought
Even the strongest ship won’t go anywhere without a set course. Be intentional, stay on track, and move with purpose.
